Pharmacy Protection Fund

Invest in YOUR Profession and Support the Pharmacy Protection Fund Today!

Dear IPhA Members, Pharmacy Owners, and Esteemed Colleagues,

Every one of us knows that pharmacy is more than a profession—it’s a calling, a commitment, and for many of us, it’s a lifelong journey dedicated to the health and well-being of our communities. But as we strive to deliver this essential care, we’re all too aware of the mounting pressures that threaten to undermine our work and our livelihood.

Pharmacy Benefit Managers (PBMs) continue to squeeze margins, limit our ability to serve patients effectively, and create untenable barriers for independent and chain pharmacists alike. We are also grappling with increasing workplace demands that test our teams’ resilience and well-being. In these moments, we’re faced with two choices: stand by and accept these challenges, or rise up, advocate fiercely, and protect what we have built.

The Illinois Pharmacists Association has chosen the latter. That’s why we established the Pharmacy Protection Fund—to equip us with the resources to fight back. Through this fund, IPhA can engage in strategic lobbying, implement powerful public relations campaigns, and commission rigorous data analysis to address these critical issues at their core. But we cannot do this alone; we need your partnership, your commitment, and your support.

If there was ever a time to invest in the future of pharmacy in Illinois, it is now. Every dollar contributed to the Pharmacy Protection Fund is a direct investment in the power to make change happen. Your support enables us to stand up to PBMs, to challenge unfair practices, and to fight for policies that protect our profession and the patients who rely on us every day.

Let’s be clear: this is about securing the future of our profession, safeguarding our rights, and empowering each one of us to deliver the care that Illinois residents deserve. So today, I’m calling on you, our dedicated members and allies, to step forward. Make a contribution to the Pharmacy Protection Fund and join us in this fight.

Together, we are stronger. Together, we will protect our profession and ensure that Illinois pharmacists continue to lead with strength, resilience, and integrity. Let’s stand firm and show that we will not be pushed aside.

Thank you for your unwavering commitment to pharmacy, to IPhA, and to a brighter future for all.

In unity and determination,

Garth K. Reynolds, BSPharm, RPh, MBA, FAPhA
Executive Director
Illinois Pharmacists Association

What is YOUR Advocacy Buy-In?

Illinois Pharmacists Association (IPhA) continues making advances each year in Springfield to protect your pharmacy practice and expand access to patient care services.

2019

Foundational PBM Legislation (PA 101-0452) signed into law.

2020

Pharmacist lunches and breaks requirement, violations for not providing a safe work environment that endangers patient safety, and enables trained pharmacy technicians to administer vaccines (PA 101-0621).  COVID Expansions from both Federal and State levels (PREP Act Amendments).

2021

Vaccine age lowered to 7 years old and for all vaccines (PA 102-0016).  Pharmacists can provide contraception assessment and consultation (PA 102-0135) and the ability for Pharmacists to bill medical insurance for these services signed into law.

2022

Senate asks Auditor General to issue a Performance Audit on the Managed Medicaid Program (SR 792).  Performance Audit published in May 2023.  Over $200 million in spread that should have been passed on to pharmacies.  Pharmacist’s ability to provide HIV PrEP/PEP services and ability to bill medical insurance (PA 102-1051).

2023

Pharmacists independent ordering/administration for COVID & Influenza Vaccines/Testing & COVID Therapeutics (PA 103-0001).  PBM Anti-Retaliation provisions to preserve freedom of speech and advocating to government officials (PA 103-0453).  PBM Audit reforms that enable pharmacies to be able to be protected from weaponized audits (PA 103-0102).

None of these advancements and protections happened overnight.  Each of them is the result of years of support and advocacy from our Membership and Support to our Pharmacy Protection Fund!  IPhA needs your ongoing support with your contributions to the Pharmacy Protection Fund.  The Pharmacy Protection Fund enables IPhA to have the resources to retain lobbying support, member outreach communication tools, and legislative monitoring.  2025 is going to be a critical year for pharmacy both on a Federal and State level.  We must continue to build upon our success in Springfield with PBM and payment reform, as IPhA partners closely with national organizations on relief for DIR fees.

IPhA is asking every independent, community pharmacy throughout Illinois to donate $365 to the Pharmacy Protection Fund for 2025.  Each year IPhA must raise at least $100,000 to maintain our ability to enact positive change to ensure pharmacy sustainability, equitable access to needed medications, and value a patient’s choice of their pharmacist.  If 274 pharmacies Stand Up and contribute $365, IPhA will be able to achieve our target goal.
